Who is Skinny Steve?
Skinny Steve is a Canadian DJ and producer crafting emotionally resonant soundscapes rooted in open-format experimentation and cultural storytelling. Originally from Edmonton, Alberta, with strong ties to the Eastern European diaspora, Steve blends genres like House, Disco, Trap, R&B, and Tech House to create sets that are equal parts cathartic and communal.
Since beginning his DJ career in 2018, Steve has performed at venues and events across Canada, sharing stages with artists such as Drake, Snoop Dogg, BONES, Yung Gravy, and Bhad Bhabie. His style is built on rhythmic control, layered transitions, and emotional pacing — transforming dancefloors into spaces where people feel both energized and understood.
What sets Skinny Steve apart is his deep commitment to creating inclusive musical spaces. Whether through his late-night radio show on CJAM 99.1 FM (Windsor/Detroit) or his live performances, he aims to provide refuge for anyone who feels disconnected, isolated, or out of place. His philosophy is simple but powerful: “It’s okay to feel alone… come feel alone with us.”
Musically, Steve draws inspiration from a wide spectrum of influences. His house work echoes the grooves of Daft Punk, Bob Sinclar, and Felix Da Housecat, while his Hip-Hop and R&B production nods to Metro Boomin’, Pharrell, Timbaland, and Kanye West. What ties it all together is a signature sound built on atmosphere, emotion, and movement.
His Eastern European heritage plays a vital role in his work. Through sampling rare regional records, weaving traditional textures into modern productions, or simply channelling the emotional undercurrents of displacement and identity, Steve transforms his roots into a musical language that resonates across borders.
He doesn’t just DJ - he curates environments. Every performance is designed with the intention of allowing people to drop their emotional guard, move freely, and feel connected — even if only for a night. His work explores themes of isolation, individuality, and belonging, using sound as a medium for shared experience.
Whether behind the decks or inside a studio session, Skinny Steve isn’t just playing music - he’s crafting a moment. One beat at a time, he invites you into his world: where groove meets introspection, and where every outsider has a place to dance.
